Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the citizens of India on Friday morning via a short video message. In the video message, he requested citizens to turn off their lights for 9 minutes at 9 pm on April 5 and light a candle or a diya or use a flashlight on one’s mobile to mark the country’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
As his message has gone viral amongst millions of people, several memes and jokes around it are doing rounds on Twitter. Check out some sarcastic tweets:
While some are criticizing this initiative and calling it useless, most people are in complete support of the same. Actress Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel wrote on Twitter, “Lighting Diyas is a very good gesture, diya creates an ethereal aura which is very calming and effective, to show each other our support let’s do this, I love how @narendramodi ji also focuses on our emotional needs and tries to heal us in every way …. Jai Shri Ram…”
Ravi Shastri wrote, “To reignite the united strength of 130 Crore people, let us light a lamp | a candle | torch | mobile flashlight at 9 pm for 9 minutes on Sunday – 5th April. Let’s build up a new energy to fight this #COVID crisis.”
Earlier, when he announced Janta Curfew on March 22, he had urged people to clap from their windows, balconies or doorstep to applaud the services of doctors and essential workers.
