Swollen gums are a major hurdle in oral hygiene. The swelling of gums can cause problems like bad breath, tooth decay, bleeding gums, pain in chewing, yellow teeth, and many more. There a few natural ways to heal swollen gums, it can be done using certain kitchen essentials.

Speaking of the causes of swollen gums, it can be caused by a food particle stays stuck between in the teeth for too long. In women, swollen gums can also happen because of hormonal issues. Other causes can be genetic as well.

Salt Rub

One of the age-old methods to cure swollen gums is to rub salt on it. One can directly rub the salt on the swollen gums or rinse the mouth with saltwater. The salt acts as an antibiotic to help fight the bacteria causing the swelling. Trying this method twice a day (Morning and Night) can help heal the swollen gums.

Turmeric Gel

The ancient scriptures are proof that turmeric is an antibiotic herb. Thus, the antibiotics in the turmeric can help heal swollen gums. The anti-inflammatory quality of turmeric can help the germs causing the problem. One can rub turmeric directly on the gums or use a toothpaste having turmeric essence.

Floss

There can be swelling in gums if a food particle stays stuck between the teeth for too long. Hence, it is necessary to floss before going to bed. Plaque can also cause swelling of gums. Thus, flossing plays an important role in oral hygiene.

Brushing Teeth

One of the basic things one can do to stop gum swelling in the future is to brush teeth twice a day. While brushing one must use a toothbrush with soft bristles if the gums are sensitive. Moreover, brushing of the teeth can be followed after the floss.

Mouth Wash

Gargle becomes necessary because the swollen gums can lead to bad breathe at times. One can make mouth wash at home by using cinnamon and clove or even peppermint and tea tree oil. Baking soda mixed with warm water also acts like magic.

These are the few natural ways to heal swollen gums. However, if the situation gets worse, one must consult a dentist.
