MasterChef India 8: ‘Zero Waste Milestone’ By Suraj Thapa

He mixed potato peels and Indian spices which we use at home and kept that mixture in a microwave for that whole night at a very low temperature and the crunchy, flavoured chips were ready to serve.

There is a huge chunk of the audience who loves to watch MasterChef. MasterChef has been a really successful kitchen reality show in India and currently its 8th season is going on. Chef Ranveer Brar and Chef Vikas Khanna have maintained the USP of the show and, of course, the contestants too. The different on the spot recipes from various new ingredients are fun to watch. Though many times it is not affordable for us to try those recipes at home, the tasks and challenges are extremely exciting.

But now in this 8th season of MasterChef India, contestant Suraj Thapa, for the first time ever in the kitchen of MasterChef, made a very productive yet easy and very tasty dish which impressed the judges. Suraj Thapa converted the kitchen scrap into a very crisp, tempting yet simple dish. He presented the whole process through a video, which left judges in awe.

Suraj used potato peels and some easily available Indian spices to make this easy dish. He mixed potato peels and Indian spices which we use at home and kept that mixture in a microwave for that whole night at a very low temperature and the crunchy, flavoured chips were ready to serve.

Judges tasted it and called it a ‘zero waste milestone’. They suggested to the audience that we should try this instead of throwing peels into the garbage. This video went viral and received more than 21 lakh views.

While this recipe seems easy and a zero waste product, the major concern raised by viewers is electricity. Looking at the current charges of electricity, it is not possible for a common man to keep their microwave on overnight. Thus, practically looking, it is not a zero waste milestone.
