The release of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, directed by Advait Chandan and starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya, hit theaters on August 11, 2022. Despite receiving praise overseas, the film was declared a box office failure in India, which deeply affected Aamir Khan. The actor took full responsibility for the film’s poor performance, acknowledging that the ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ failure weighed heavily on him.
In a candid conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her YouTube podcast Chapter 2, Aamir Khan discussed how the failure led him to consider quitting acting altogether. Although the team worked hard, Aamir admitted and took full responsibility of movie’s loss.
During this difficult time of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ failure, Aamir shared that his children, Ira and Junaid Khan, played a crucial role in changing his mind. They provided emotional support and urged him not to make any decisions. Ira even explained everything in detail and made a plan on a whiteboard, helping father find a balance between his personal and professional life. Junaid also urged his father to reconsider his decision, which deeply resonated with the actor and he expressed his gratitude towards them for their support.
Aamir Khan also revealed that he had thought about informing the director of his next project ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, about his decision to quit acting. However, after much reflection and support from his children, he decided to move forward with the film. He shared that the film has wrapped up shooting and described it as an extraordinary project, which bought a renewed sense of positivity and energy into his life.
‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is a sequel to the 2007 film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, reunites Aamir Khan with Darsheel Safary and also stars Genelia D’Souza in a pivotal role. The original film left a lasting impact on audiences, and the sequel is eagerly anticipated.
‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was filmed at more than 100 locations, with principal photography beginning in late 2019. The release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is a remake of the 1994 American movie Forrest Gump, which is itself an adaptation of Winston Groom’s novel of the same name.
