Vanessa Hudgens to Explore Her Filipino Heritage in Travel Documentary

She began acting at the age of eight and became a world sensation with Disney Channel's High School Musical. As a young adult, her other credits include Spring Breakers, Gimme Shelter, and Bad Boys for Life.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens heads to the Philippines to explore her family history as the star of a new travel documentary. The film will capture Hudgens’ first trip to her mother’s country of birth and will explore her close relationship with her family and her personal journey as an American-born semi-Filipino woman who has become one of the world’s most recognizable stars.

The project will begin filming later this month in the Philippine cities of Palawan and Manila. Hudgens is accompanied on the journey and in the film by her mother, Gina Guangco, and her sister, Stella Hudgens. Vanessa Hudgens has spoken with pride many times about her mother’s heritage, who left the Philippines for the United States at the age of 25.

“I feel like our story resonates with so many women around the world,” says Hudgens. “The more we can share, the more we can help each other.” The as-yet-untitled film is produced and directed by Paul Soriano, the director of the Mañanita competition entry at the Tokyo International Film Festival 2019. “We are honored to work with Vanessa on this film project,” says Soriano. “It is inspiring to find that despite all that she has achieved in life, she wants to rediscover her Filipino roots and pay tribute to her mother’s country. Hopefully, this opens the doors for many more collaborations.”
