Taylor Swift Releases New Song ‘Carolina’ And Reveals Its Meaning

Taylor surprised fans by announcing she'd be releasing Carolina at midnight in a post shared on her Instagram just hours before.

Taylor Swift has recently released her new song Carolina and she is celebrating the release of her new song by sharing details about creating the ballad with her fans on social media. Carolina is featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming Sony Pictures film Where The Crawdads Sing, which hits theatres July 15. Taylor explained that she wrote the track over a year ago and that it centres around a girl plagued by both loneliness and curiosity.

The singer tweeted, “About a year & half ago I wrote a song about the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively & literally,’ tweeted the Red singer. She continued, “The juxtaposition of her loneliness & independence. Her curiosity & fear are all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness & the world’s betrayal of it.” Continuing on in a follow-up tweet, Taylor revealed that she wrote Carolina ‘alone in the middle of the night,’ and that she called on her collaborator Aaron Dessner to bring the song to life.

Swift continues, “[Aaron] and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place.” “I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now,” the Grammy Award-winner concluded. She attached a Carolina lyric video, which features footage of Where The Crawdads Sing star Daisy Edgar-Jones from the forthcoming film.

Earlier in the day, Taylor surprised fans by announcing she’d be releasing Carolina at midnight Thursday in a post shared on her Instagram just hours before. ‘Carolina. Midnight,’ she wrote over an image of trees along a riverbank, adding a short audio clip of the song. The I Knew You Were Trouble hitmaker last released all-new music in 2020 when she debuted her Evermore album.

However, Taylor has shared remakes of past songs and bonus tracks while in the process of re-recording her old albums. Where The Crawdad Sings is an adaptation of Delia Chase’s New York Times Bestselling 2018 novel of the same name. The Olivia Newman-directed movie stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and was produced by Reese Witherspoon. The 11-time Grammy Award winner first announced that she had contributed a song to the soundtrack in March.
