Sofia Vergara Opens Up About Divorce From Joe Manganiello, Here’s The Real Reason Behind Their Split

The actress's candid revelations provide a glimpse into the complexities of personal choices and evolving priorities in relationships

In a candid interview with El País, Sofia Vergara delves into the reasons behind her divorce from Joe Manganiello, shedding light on a personal decision rooted in her perspective on motherhood. The actress shares that her marriage ended due to a fundamental difference regarding the desire for children.

Sofia, who was married to Joe Manganiello for 10 years, discloses, “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.” The actress, already a mother to her 32-year-old son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, from her first marriage to Joe Gonzalez, expresses a readiness for a different chapter in her life.

Addressing her stance on motherhood, Sofia emphasizes her preference for becoming a grandmother rather than a mother again. She states, “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things.”

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello officially announced their divorce in July 2023, seven years after their marriage. In a joint statement, the couple expressed, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
