Rihanna Is Facing Backlash Over The $1 Million Ring She Wore At Super Bowl Performance

Rihanna was criticized on Twitter by the advocacy group Justice for Myanmar for donning a $1 million Burma ruby ring at Super Bowl 2023.

Since Rihanna performed in the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, she has continued to make headlines. She makes no stone impress her fans after returning to the stage after a 6-year hiatus. However, this time the superstar is not for her performance but an accessory to her attire which has provoked quite a stir on the internet.

Rihanna was criticized on Twitter by the advocacy group Justice for Myanmar for donning a $1 million Burma ruby ring. The beautiful stones and rubies found in Myanmar are famous all over the world. Yet, their trade also generates income for the nation’s military junta government, which commits crimes against its common citizens.

The group of activists urged Rihanna to call for a ban on these jewels from Myanmar. The tweet read; “@rihanna [should] stand with the [people] of #Myanmar & support a gems ban, after wearing a $1 million Burmese ruby ring at #SuperBowl The ring is from NYC’s Bayco Jewels, which has at least 9 items on their site featuring Myanmar gems fund junta atrocities. Ban the trade!”

The group also posted another tweet about Rihanna’s ring cost which costs $1 million. “According to news reports, Rihanna’s ring, worth US$1 million, featured “a rare natural, unheated 19.47-carat sugarloaf cabochon Burma ruby and 5.66-carats of trillion-cut and round-brilliant colorless diamonds set in platinum and 18kt yellow gold.”

Netizens are currently criticizing the vocalist of the Diamonds wearing the Burmese ruby ring that was mined in Myanmar. According to the activist group, the junta in #Myanmar receives funding through the exploitation of rubies.
