“Season 5? I just got my fourth last week!” she told RadioTimes.”No, I don’t think it’s in Season 5. I said goodbye to Maeve.” Mackey had previously announced that he would be stepping down in Season 4 and his character would reportedly not be as widely cast.
“It feels very familiar! And it’s a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s… I’m not that consistent with it,” she said ahead of filming Season 4. “But we’re right into the middle of filming right now and I’m excited to be back. And yes, I’m excited to see what’s going to happen, because I don’t know either. I’ll find out over time too, so it’ll be fun!”
Mackey isn’t the only sex education star to leave the show after Season 4. Ncuti Gatwa, who also stars alongside Mackey in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, recently wrapped up his role as Eric. “Last day. Last time. Goodbye, thanks for all the lessons and for all the strength,” she shared in an Instagram post.
