Michael Gambon Who Played Dumbledore In Harry Potter Dies At 82

Harry Potter actor Michael Gambon who was popularly known for playing "Dumbledore" in the series passed away at the age of 82 years.

British actor Michael Gambon who was famously known for his role “Albus Dumbledore” in six parts of Harry Potter passed away at the age of 82 in a hospital on Thursday. The actor’s family announced his departure.

According to PA, the actor’s publicist Clair Dobbs issued a statement announcing the actor’s demise. “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon”. The statement added that the 82-year-old actor passed away peacefully with his wife, Anne, and son Fergus at his bedside following a bout of pneumonia. They further thanked fans for their support and love for the late actor and requested to respect their privacy during this painful time. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”

Michael Gambon’s Early Life

Michael Gambon was born in Cabra, Dublin, however he later moved to London during his childhood. Gambon grew up in an Irish immigrant community in Camden. The 82 years old actor was survived by his wife Anne Miller and Son Fergus Gambon.

Michael Gambon’s Career And Works

For the unversed, actor Michael Gambon, had previously won 4 television BAFTAs, three Olivier Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards during his 6 decades-long long-acting career. The actor had worked in films, on television, radio, and theatre. Born in Ireland Gambon started his acting career in theatre. He made his first stage performance in a production of Othello in Dublin in 1962.

His career saw progress after he became one of the original members of Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre acting company in London. Gambon later won three Olivier awards for his performances in National Theatre productions. Gambon further rose to fame, after he played the role of a French detective in the ITV series “Maigret”, and his role as Philip Marlow in the 1986 film, “The Singing Detective”.

And after the death of Richard Harris in 2022, who initially played the role of Dumbledore Michael Gambon accepted the challenge and took up the role of Dumbledore – headmaster of wizarding school Hogwarts in the hit Harry Potter series. The actor then appeared in the 6 parts of the 8 parts long series.
