Ryan Gosling Expresses Disappointment After Greta Gerwig And Margot Robbie Were Snubbed From Oscar Nominations

Expressing his thoughts, Gosling shared that his heart went out to Greta Gerwig, who was not nominated in the Best Director category, and Margot Robbie, who was left out of the Best Actress category.

Renowned actor Ryan Gosling finds himself caught between elation and disappointment following the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominees. While Gosling earned a well-deserved Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in “Barbie,” his focus shifted to his colleagues who were notably absent from certain categories.

Expressing his thoughts, Gosling shared that his heart went out to Greta Gerwig, who was not nominated in the Best Director category, and Margot Robbie, who was left out of the Best Actress category. In Gosling’s eyes, acknowledging their significant contributions to the history-making film is essential.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius,” Gosling stated in an interview with PEOPLE.

He went on to express his disappointment, stating that to say he is disappointed would be an understatement. Gosling emphasized the remarkable achievements of Gerwig and Robbie, noting that they played pivotal roles in making audiences laugh, breaking hearts, influencing culture, and making history.

“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees,” he continued.

Despite the absence of Gerwig and Robbie in specific categories, the film received recognition in other areas. Gerwig, alongside her husband Noah Baumbach, secured a nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. The groundbreaking film also earned nominations in the Costume Design and Production Design categories. Meanwhile, Margot Robbie, along with her husband Tom Ackerly, Robbie Brenner, and David Hyman, were nominated for Best Picture as producers.
