Billie Eilish took a strong stance against criticism of body image. The 18-year-old singer, who has repeatedly been exposed to body shaming, kicked off her world tour by taking off her shirt during her concert in Miami. Unlike most of her contemporaries in the music industry, Billie is known for covering her body in oversized clothes. Although last year the singer announced that she likes to wear baggy clothes to avoid being sexualized, even then people continue to criticize her choices in fashion.

Billie played the video during the concert, in which she spoke about being shamed for her body and style. The Grammy nominee began taking off her clothes as the video played in the background until she was standing in just her bra.

At the beginning of the video she said, Do you know me? Do you really know me?”

“If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I’m a slut. Though you’ve never seen my body, you still judge it and judge me for it. Why? We make assumptions about people based on their size,” the singer further added.

Billie then made a bold statement by saying, “We decide who they are, we decide what they’re worth. If I wear more if I wear less, who decides what that makes me? What that means? Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”

The 18-year old singer had previously addressed the same issue during a 2019 Calvin Klein ad. “I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes—nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know?” Billie said in the video.
