Will There Be A Sequel To ‘Fighter’? Here’s What The Director Said

Anand confessed his reluctance towards sequels, making an intriguing revelation. "I’m probably one of the few directors who has not made a sequel yet.

The adrenaline-packed action extravaganza, “Fighter,” starring Bollywood heartthrobs Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, has set the box office on fire, crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in record time. Despite receiving a mixed bag of reviews from critics, the film has struck a chord with audiences, who are flocking to theaters in droves, propelling its numbers to soar.

Director Siddharth Anand, in an conversation with PinkVilla, addressed the burning question on everyone’s minds: Will there be a sequel to “Fighter”? Anand’s response was both cautious and optimistic, reflecting on the audience’s response. “Yeah, that audience will decide. Abhi dekhte hain abhi 3 hi din hue hain (We’ll see. It’s been just three days since the film release),” he shared. “I think audience ka pyaar (love) will decide what we will do, and we would love to make Fighter 2 a larger story. We have some great ideas that we want to put it down to.”

However, Anand confessed his reluctance towards sequels, making an intriguing revelation. “I’m probably one of the few directors who has not made a sequel yet. Every director in this country or rather one of the top directors of the country has all made sequels. There is no director who has not made a sequel,” he stated. “So, I am probably the one who has not made a sequel, and I am refraining from that. I don’t want to make sequels yet.”

Delving deeper into his creative philosophy, Anand expressed his inclination towards exploring fresh narratives and characters. He cautioned against the comfort zone that sequels often provide, emphasizing his desire to continually challenge himself. “You start relying on the nostalgia and try to match that vo mujhe maza nahin …(that I don’t enjoy) that’s where my stagnation will happen. I feel that I may be wrong, but I want to just keep challenging myself,” he elaborated, underlining his reluctance to embrace sequels prematurely.

“Fighter” also features veteran actor Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role, adding further depth to its ensemble cast. Notably, the film marks Siddharth Anand’s immediate directorial venture following the monumental success of “Pathaan” (2023), starring Shah Rukh Khan, which grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.
