When Karan Johar Went To Buy A Br* For His Mother: ‘My Friends Who Were With Me Were Horrified,’ Says The Director

Throughout His Career, Karan Has Been Vocal About Breaking Societal Taboos And Stereotypes, Often Incorporating These Themes In His Films

Karan Johar, who recently returned to directing after a seven-year hiatus with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani,’ has made some intriguing revelations. During the press conference of the movie, the filmmaker shared a personal experience about breaking societal taboos.

He candidly stated, “It was never a taboo topic. I have gone shopping for her (mother) to buy a b*a. It’s never been a problem with me, but I do know that while I did it, my friends who were with me were horrified. They wondered why I did not designate this job to a female friend. And I was like, ‘Why? It has been asked by my mother, and why will I send somebody else to do it?'”

Karan emphasized that his mother is 81 years old, and when she needs something, he feels responsible to fulfill her wishes, whether it’s a b*a or any other item. For him, it felt organic to do so, even though he understood that there might be discomfort around the topic.

Throughout his career, Karan has been vocal about breaking societal taboos and stereotypes, often incorporating these themes in his films. He uses his platform as a filmmaker to challenge norms and address important issues.

Regarding his latest release, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,’ the movie hit theaters on July 28 and has garnered praise from all corners. The star-studded film features Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, and Tota Roy Chowdhary in key roles.
