Sandeepa Dhar Visits Her Abandoned House In Srinagar After 30 Yrs

Sandeepa Dhar recollects how her family was forced to leave their own home in Srinagar 30 years ago.

Actress Sandeepa Dhar recently revisited her long-abandoned home in Srinagar after a staggering 30 years. The star, belonging to a Kashmiri Pandit family, recounted the horrifying story of their abrupt departure from their homeland in 1990. Sharing a heartfelt video on her Instagram, Sandeepa offered a glimpse of her cherished yet deserted abode, evoking a sense of nostalgia.

The clip captured Sandeepa’s poignant journey through the now desolate house, each corner resonating with bittersweet memories from bygone times. “After so many years, let me take you guys along with me. I’ll show you the house, it feels surreal,” she expressed, reflecting on the emotional weight of the moment.

While sharing the video, she wrote on Twitter, “30 years back, my family was forced to run overnight from Srinagar, Kashmir. So we packed whatever we could in just 1 suitcase & fled. And now, 30 years later we returned to whatever remains of our home. The empty house stands & What remains are the memories that we had made almost 3 decades ago. And this time we don’t have to run. Hopefully never ever!”

This isn’t the first time Sandeepa has opened up about her family’s turbulent past. When Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial ‘The Kashmir Files’ was released in 2022, the actress penned a poignant note on Instagram, shedding light on the horrifying experiences her family went through. She had shared, “The day they announced that Kashmiri Pandits should leave their women behind and leave Kashmir, my family decided to flee their homeland, hidden in the back of a truck, with my young cousin sister hidden under the seat behind my father’s feet for safety, quietly in the middle of the night (sic).”

Despite the somber recollections, Sandeepa’s recent visit to her childhood home marks a significant stride forward. “The empty house stands, and what remains are the memories that we had made almost three decades ago. And this time, we don’t have to run. Hopefully, never ever!” she affirmed in her Instagram post.
