Neetu Kapoor was recently seen on Koffee With Karan 8 with Zeenat Aman, and the actress spoke extensively about her relationship with her late husband, Rishi Kapoor. She revealed that Rishi Kapoor was a strict boyfriend who would not allow her to party.
Recalling an incident during the shooting of Yash Chopra films, they used to have post-shoot parties at night. However, she never partied hard because Rishi would set restrictions.
“We had a fabulous time, especially with Yash ji (Chopra). We would party at night, play antakshari, play dumb charades. So, that was like one picnic. That was really-really fun. But I had this Rishi Kapoor as my boyfriend. So, I never partied-partied because he was always like, ‘Yeh nahi karna, woh nahi karna, ghar aajao.’ So, I’ve never seen that wild side of partying in those days,” Neetu Kapoor said.
“I was committed, and I had a very strict mother and a very strict boyfriend. So, I was torn between both of them,” she added.
Talking about their early days in the relationship, they dated for a long time and then got engaged on April 13, 1979. They eventually tied the knot on January 22, 1980. However, after marriage, Neetu took a sabbatical from movies. The couple welcomed two children, daughter Riddhima and son Ranbir Kapoor, leading to Neetu taking a backseat from acting.
Rishi was diagnosed with leukemia and battled it for two years. He received treatment in New York, where Neetu and Ranbir were by his side. Alia Bhatt, who is now married to Ranbir, would also often visit them. The trio returned to India in 2019, but Rishi was rushed to the hospital in Mumbai in April 2020, where he passed away.
