Lehren's exclusive with Manmeet Kaur who is playing a supporting role in Captain Vikram Batra's biopic 'Shershaah' starring Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra in lead roles.

Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Shershaah’ is finally releasing on 12th August on Amazon Prime Video. The film is based on the life of Kargil War Hero Captain Vikram Batra. The film also stars Kiara Advani who plays Dimple Cheema (Capt. Vikram Batra’s fiance).

Actor Manmeet Kaur is also making her Hindi film debut with Dharma Productions’ ‘Shershaah’. She will be seen playing the role of Mona, a supporting role (Sid and Kiara’s close friend) in the film.

Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Manmeet Kaur as she talks about her experience of shooting for the film and working with Sidharth Malhotra & Kiara Advani. She also recalls the time when she met Captain Vikram Batra’s family.

The film is releasing tomorrow. Are you excited or nervous?

I am very excited. Shershaah was supposed to release last year but got delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tell us more about your character?

My character’s name is Mona. She is Vikram and Dimple’s best friend. It is a very bubbly character and interestingly, it is very similar to what I am in real life. I enjoyed a lot while shooting.

This is your debut film. How did it come your way?

I do a lot of commercials. There’s this popular casting director named Jogi Malang, who called me for an audition. When Director Vishnuvardhan watched my audition, he liked it. That’s how I was locked for this character. Everybody said that I am exactly the girl they were looking for.

What kind of preparations or research did you do for this role?

I researched about the real Mona. I came to know that she is currently settled in the USA. She was very excited when she came to know that I was playing her role.

How was your experience of working with Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani?

They were so friendly to me and I felt like family. After our shots, we used to sit together. We used to play games and gossip a lot. Sidharth used to bring his favorite snack Makhana in his tiffin and share it with us. I never felt like I was working. I always felt like I was on a trip with my friends.

Honestly speaking, I always felt like I was real Mona, Sidharth was real Vikram and Kiara was real Dimple. I have lived a real vibe.

Where did you shoot your sequences?

We shot many sequences in Palampur, Chandigarh and Mumbai. And since it is a war film, most of the shooting has been done in Kargil. In fact, the climax scene where Vikram Batra sacrifices his life, it has been shot at the real location. It was very emotional to shoot those scenes. Everybody got teary-eyed while shooting for the climax.

Did you also meet Captain Vikram Batra’s family?

I feel I am very privileged and lucky to get a chance to meet them because, from the actors, only Sidharth, Kiara and I went to meet them at their residence. I met Vishal Batra Sir (Capt. Vikram Batra’s brother) and his sister and parents as well. they are all so down to earth. They have created a library where you see his pictures, medals etc. We got really emotional seeing his belongings and talking to his family as they talked about the Kargil Hero. We felt so connected.

Did you also meet Dimple Cheema (Capt. Vikram Batra’s fiance)?

No, she didn’t want to meet anybody. Even for the research, Kiara talked to her via video call only. I guess she wanted to keep her life personal. But you know, she never married anyone else. She still feels for Captain Vikram Batra. I am getting too emotional while talking about it.
