Karan Johar Feels If Bollywood Made KGF 2 It Would Have Been Lynched

Karan Johar commented on the success of KGF Chapter 2, feels Bollywood would be lynched had it created the film.

The Bollywood vs South debate is rising day by day. It has received wider attention over time, due to the result of movies in both industries. In Bollywood, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Vivek Agnihotri’s Kashmir Files and Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 have gained popularity and earned well at Box Office. While SS Rajamouli’s RRR and KGF Chapter 2 were mega-blockbusters breaking all the records. Many pointed the finger at Bollywood commenting that it is lacking behind and not making good films. In a recent interview with a well-known entertainment website, filmmaker, Karan Johar addressed the issue and shared his views on KGF 2.

The Hindi film industry is recently experiencing a stormy wind commercially. Karan Johar, who is now gearing up for his chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’, commented on the success of KGF Chapter 2. Talking to Film Companion, Karan Johar said, “When I read the reviews of KGF, I’m like if we made this, we would be lynched. But here, everybody is like ‘Oh it was a celebration, a party’ and it was. I loved it. I loved it with all my heart. But I feel hum yeh banaate to? (If we had made this, then?)”

Continuing the conversation the director feels Bollywood is not given any kind of leeway. He further added, “It’s working both ways. I feel we are also not given any kind of leeway and then we are trying to be somebody else. So, we are all over the place. We are living a dual existence and we have to stop.”

The second installment of Koral Gold Fields has earned over Rs 1100 crores worldwide and 435 crores in the Hindi version alone. Karan is all set to release his upcoming movie Jug Jugg Jeeyo on 24th June. He is also preparing for a directorial after six years with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in February 2023.
