Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar are good friends, often seen together and even party together. However, there was a time when Karan advised Yash Chopra not to cast Ranveer in his debut movie, ‘Band Baaja Baaraat.’
In one of the episodes of ‘Koffee With Karan,’ the filmmaker candidly admitted that he once went to meet Yash Chopra over lunch and discussed Ranveer. Karan shared, “I was meeting Yash uncle (Yash Chopra) for lunch. So some assistant directors were playing table tennis. Aditya Chopra pointed out that one of those boys is not an AD, he is the boy who is starring in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat.’ I said, ‘Who?’ Because I only saw a group of ADs. I think you were wearing a pink shirt; I can’t remember properly. So I said, ‘He is in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’? (laughs).’” Anushka jumped in and said, “Ouch.”
Karan continued, “Aditya told me, ‘He is a really good actor. You have no idea how good he is.’ I said, ‘But it doesn’t matter; he looks like this.’ I said, ‘I couldn’t imagine.’ Then I saw the poster of the film and I told them that they have to change this poster. I was like, ‘I have no hope. I’m not going to go and see this film because Aditya never calls me for any previews anymore. I went to see this film and I was like, ‘Oh my god. he’s a movie star.’”
However, Ranveer’s debut film was a hit, and after that, he started receiving offers. Now, he is one of the top actors in Bollywood. Recently, he was seen in Karan Johar’s directorial movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,’ which was released in 2023 and was a massive hit at the box office.
