Why Poonam Dhillon Said Yes To Yash Chopra’s Superhit ‘Noorie’?

Poonam Dhillon made her debut through 'Trishul' but she did the movie as an adventure. She had never intended to make a career in it.

Bollywood’s Noorie, Poonam Dhillon turns 62 today, on April 18. The actress celebrated her birthday with the most beloved ladies in her life. She posted a celebration click on her Instagram account and captioned it, “So lovely to have my friends with me … so much fun .. laughter, giggles & food!! Thanks Ladies for making it special.” Anu Ranjan and Alka Yagnik were also part of this small yet sweet birthday bash.

Poonam is one of the gorgeous faces in the industry. She made her acting debut in Yash Chopra’s ‘Trishul’. But it was never a part of her plan. In an exclusive interview with Lehren, the actress talked about her debut film, Trishul and another successful venture ‘Noorie’. She dropped into the film industry as an adventurer. Trishul starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor was like a picnic to Poonam back then. Poonam revealed that she had been ready to do Trishul because it seemed like a small role, and she had to do only one film. She didn’t choose this as her way of career. When Trishul was offered to her, she was a school-going girl with zero knowledge about films, its length, role or importance. Basically, Poonam’s plan was to go back to her studies after doing Trishul, and she did it but there was something else in her fortune.

When Poonam regularly joined her college, she received some urgent messages from Yash Chopra regarding their new film Noorie. “Ek bahot achha khoobsurat role hai, I want you to do one more film,” Yash Chopra told her. As it was never her plan, she was a little confused, but the actress said that Yash Chopra and his unit told her not to show so much of tantrums; “Itane nakhare karoge toh dekho saare heroines tayar hai yeh role karne ke liye,’ they added. Many actresses were ready to work in the film Noorie, but producer Yash Chopra wanted her to do this role. He clearly told her, “You are acting very pricey.”  But it was never like that. She was a simple, small town girl who was completely unaware of the glamour of the industry. Finally, the Romance actress convinced herself, and she did Noorie alongside Farooq Shaikh, which was the super-hit film released in the year 1979 and became one of the highest grossing films of that year.
