“I Gave My 6 Years” – Sanjay Puran Singh Was Hurt On Being Removed From 83

Filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan admits he was hurt when he was removed as a director from the film "83" on which he worked for 6 years.

The success of 83 is credited to directed Kabir Khan and every actor who perfectly stepped into the shoes of the cricketers they were playing. Ranveer Singh was highly praised for his perfect portrayal of Kapil Dev on screen. While Kabir Khan is widely known to be the man behind Kapil Dev’s biopic, you will be shocked to know that it was someone else who envisioned it and worked on it for six years. Filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan originally wrote the film’s story and screenplay. He was the one who approached Kapil Dev and the producers and put together a team to work on the film. Sadly, the film was snatched from him, leaving him heartbroken.

Kapil Dev’s biopic 83 was originally the idea of Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. As the work on the film progressed, the producers felt that a well-renowned person should direct the film to add more credibility and commercial viability. Thus, Kabir Khan was brought on board and Sanjay was removed. Kabir Khan is credited for writing the screenplay and directing the film. Meanwhile, Sanjay was credited for the story.

Speaking of the incident, Sanjay said in an exclusive interview, “When big filmmakers come on board, producers get some surety about the profitability. I think the decision was driven by a business perspective. Filmmaking is an expensive business so the producers and investors must have calculated the market value. I wrote the script but I couldn’t direct the film. It’s all in the past.”
