Did You Know Sharmila Tagore Shot The Song ‘Mere Sapno Ki Rani’ In A Studio, And She Could Have Been Sued For It?

Sharmila further explained how this information caused distress to Shakti Samanta and led to shooting complications.

Sharmila Tagore, one of the top heroines of her time, shared some insights from her time shooting for “Aradhana” with Rajesh Khanna. During an interview with the YouTube channel “The Quorum,” the actress revealed that her actions during that era would have led to a lawsuit today.

“When I was working on ‘Aradhana,’ which took a couple of years to be made, Manik da (Satyajit Ray) called me and offered me the role in ‘Aranyer Din Ratri.’ It required a continuous commitment of one month, which clashed with ‘Sapno Ki Rani,’ being shot in Darjeeling. Rajesh Khanna’s dates were impossible to secure because he was working with 12 producers who had introduced him.”

Sharmila further explained how this information caused distress to Shakti Samanta and led to shooting complications. In the film, scenes featuring Rajesh Khanna and Sujit Kumar were filmed in Darjeeling, while Sharmila’s scenes were shot in studios using rear projection. “This was a significant compromise, and I believe I would have been sued in today’s time. However, because ‘Aradhana’ became such a huge success, everything was forgiven, and I was cast in Shakti Samanta’s later films,” she concluded.

After an absence of over a decade, Sharmila made her return to the screen in “Gulmohar,” a family drama available on Disney+ Hotstar. This film also stars Manoj Bajpayee and is directed by Rahul V Chittella. The ensemble cast of “Gulmohar” includes Amol Palekar, Suraj Sharma, Simran, and Kaveri Seth. The storyline revolves around the Batra family, spanning multiple generations, as they prepare to leave their 34-year-old family home. This departure triggers a rediscovery of their bonds with each other while they grapple with personal secrets and insecurities.
