Anubhav Sinha Clears The Air On ‘Ra.One’ Sequel And Explains Why He Was Hurt By Shah Rukh Khan’s Statement

Sinha expressed regret over not making a better film with SRK, despite the praise the movie's competent visual effects have received in recent years.

Director Anubhav Sinha, who helmed the 2011 film ‘Ra.One,’ featuring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, recently reflected on his experience creating the superhero film. In a candid conversation with Connect FM Canada, Sinha expressed regret over not making a better film with SRK, despite the praise the movie’s competent visual effects have received in recent years.

Anubhav Sinha candidly admitted, “I think I failed Shah Rukh Khan. I did not make a good enough film, but it was such a great opportunity. I should have made a better film.” Sinha’s acknowledgment of his disappointment in ‘Ra.One’ comes in light of the film’s growing popularity due to its impressive visual effects.

When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Sinha was cautious, labeling it a “presumptuous thought.” He explained that when he conceived ‘Ra.One,’ he had just delivered the biggest flop of his career, ‘Cash.’ However, he was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan. He emphasized, “Such big films happen; you don’t plan them. When I thought of Ra.One, I had just delivered the biggest flop of my career thus far, Cash, and I thought of that film, and it happened, which is quite surprising to say the least.” Sinha concluded by praising Shah Rukh Khan as the “hardest working man” he knows.

In the past, Sinha has expressed his discontent with how ‘Ra.One’ was treated, emphasizing that he did not appreciate when the film was treated “harshly.” Shah Rukh Khan also spoke about the film’s underwhelming performance. Sinha recalled feeling heartbroken when he read Shah Rukh’s statement and said, “My heart was broken. I thought to myself, ‘How could Shah Rukh say this?’ He added that Shah Rukh Khan had given the film his all but noted that the actor may have been hurt, which could explain his comments. Sinha reflected, “I was hurt by what he said, but I was young then.”

The director’s candid remarks provide insight into the complex emotions and challenges that can surround a high-profile project like ‘Ra.One’ in the world of Bollywood.
