The 69th edition of the popular gala event, Filmfare Awards 2024 took place on Sunday in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This year the Best Actors award was bagged by the Bollywood couple Alia Bhatt and her husband Ranbir Kapoor. While Ranbir Kapoor won the Best Actor award for his film, Animal, Alia Bhatt on the other hand won the Best Actress award for her film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Alia managed to beat actresses like Bhumi Pednekar (Thank You For Coming), Deepika Padukone (Pathaan), Kiara Advani (Satyaprem Ki Katha), Rani Mukerji (Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway), and Taapsee Pannu (Dunki) with her performance in the film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
However, following her award-winning, many netizens came out and brutally slammed the Filmfare Awards for rewarding Alia Bhatt with the Best Actress award for 2024. The netizens went out and compared Alia Bhatt with Taapsee Pannu and Rani Mukerji stating that the latter two actresses had performed a lot better than Alia Bhatt in her film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Reacting to the same a user wrote, “Pretty much ANYONE ELSE was more deserving than Alia.”, Comparing Alia with Taapsee and Kiara a user wrote, “Tapsee and Kiara (Satyaprem ki katha) deserve it way more. Kiara’s emotional range in PTSD scenes is seriously overlooked by Filmfare.”
Comparing Rani Mukerji with Alia, another Reddit user wrote, “Lol Filmfare has become a joke , giving Alia the best actress for that mediocre performance in Rocky Rani. She didn’t even get the bengali accent right , which was like a basic requirement for that role. Even Kiara in Satyaprem ki Katha was 10 times better than Alia, and I’m not even insulting Rani by comparing her performance ,which was leagues ahead of Papa Jo ki Pari’s sasta fashion show as Rani.”
