After the ad went out, he faced a lot of backlashes, Akshay issued a clarification and distanced himself from the brand, saying he would be terminating his contract. However, in a recent interview, the actor said the entire episode gave him a sleepless night. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Akshay spoke about the mistakes in his life, saying: “I have made mistakes and I have admitted them. Just like I did with the Elaichi brand ad. I admitted it was a mistake. That same night I could hardly sleep and was restless. So I wrote what I needed to write and clarify.”

When asked if he thought the apology was too late, Akshay replied, “I felt it was a mistake. Everyone learns from their mistakes and I learned from there.”

In his tweet, Akshay wrote: “I’m sorry. I want to apologize to all of my fans and supporters. Your reaction over the past few days has affected me deeply. While I do not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect your opinion given my association with Vimal Elaichi. In all humility, I take a step back. I have decided to donate the entire sponsorship contribution to a good cause. The brand may continue to serve ads for the legal duration of the contract that binds me, but I promise to be extremely diligent in my future decisions. In return, I will keep asking for your love and wishes.”
