Aamir Khan On Remaking Forrest Gump

In a recent interview with Cinestaan, actor Aamir Khan opened up about the narration of Atul’s script for Forrest Gump. He said, “Yes. I was a little worried because he had written his first script. He hadn’t written a script before. He asked me to listen to it very enthusiastically. I felt if I listen and don’t like, he would feel bad. Also, a film like Forrest Gump, which is such a cult classic, is very difficult to imagine adapting into another film. That’s why I didn’t listen to his script for two years,”.

He further added,  “I was like, ‘How dare you make me read Forrest Gump?’ You can’t even think of making Forrest Gump again. It’s like making Mughal-a-Azam and Mother India again. I felt why should I waste my time listening to something I don’t want to make? But when I heard it, I was blown. I felt, yes, he has done it. It was a very moving experience for me. The moment I heard it, I said I want to do this.”

Meanwhile, recently the actor appeared on Karan Johar’s chat show where he opened up about the adaptation of Forrest Gump in Laal Singh Chaddha. Aamir said, “Actually, to be honest, Atul wrote the screenplay in two weeks, this was 14 years ago. We came after the premiere of ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane na’ and he asked me about my favorite film. I said one of them is Forrest Gump. Two weeks later he called me and said, ‘I have written an adaptation of Forrest Gump’. I responded exactly the way you did, I thought who mill make Forrest Gump remake? I mean it has won so many Oscars. It’s a well-loved film and remaking it is tough. I didn’t hear his script but I was so sure that the film wouldn’t get made. It would be foolish. I didn’t even think of it but when I heard the script I just fell in love with it.”

Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan, who have previously worked together in the blockbuster film 3 Idiots are now gearing up for the release of Laal Singh Chaddha. It will hit the theatres on 11 August, clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan.
