Ranbir Kapoor’s film “Animal,” which enjoyed massive success at the box office, is facing uncertainty regarding its planned OTT release on Netflix. The delay stems from a legal dispute between co-producer Cine1 Studios and music company T-Series, prompting intervention from the Delhi High Court.
Cine1 Studios has approached the court, seeking a stay on the Netflix release, citing non-payment and an alleged breach of contract by T-Series. The disagreement primarily revolves around profit-sharing arrangements and concerns about the concealment of an amendment to the original agreement, as reported by India Today.
Cine1 Studios accuses T-Series of violating the profit-sharing agreement, despite a prior deal that granted the music company 35 percent Intellectual Property Rights in the film. T-Series, represented by senior Counsel Amit Sibal, contends that the legal action is premature, given that the 70-day period from the theatrical release has not yet passed.
T-Series further alleges that Cine1 failed to seek timely information about costs over four years, allowing the movie’s release without objection. They assert a willingness to share financial statements and agreements but claim that Cine1 was aware of the ongoing expenses.
Advocate Sibal argues that an amendment in 2022 involved Cine1 accepting 2.5 crores and relinquishing all intellectual property and derivative rights in the film. The court adjourned the hearing for further information gathering.
Producer Murad Khetani is expected to appear in person during the next hearing, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the necessity to resolve the dispute for the film’s OTT release plans.
Talking about the movie, the movie revolves around a complex relationship between a father and a son. Balbir gives no attention to his son, Ranvijay Singh. Ranvijay tries everything to gain his father’s attention, creating an obsessive pattern in him. The obsession leads him to become a dangerous criminal whom everyone fears.
