68th Filmfare Awards South 2023: RRR, Sita Ramam, Kantara, Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 Dominate the Winners List!

Due to certain circumstances, last year's Filmfare Awards South couldn’t take place. Now, Filmfare has unveiled the full list of 2023 winners. Check out who won big!

The prestigious Filmfare Awards South, a celebration of the South Indian film industry’s remarkable talent, took a hiatus last year, leaving fans eagerly awaiting its return. As the year 2022 was a groundbreaking year for South Indian cinema, with several films making waves globally, including RRR, Kantara, Ponniyin Selvan: I and Sita Ramam. Now, the 2023 Filmfare Awards South have finally taken place, honouring the finest in the industry through online voting. Here’s a detailed look at the winners.

A. Filmfare Awards South (Telugu):

In Telugu cinema, the Oscar-winning film ‘RRR’ emerged as a big winner. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film won ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director.’ The lead actors, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, shared the award for ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’. Additionally, the film’s music composer, MM Keeravani, won ‘Best Music Album’, and Kaala Bhairava was awarded Best Playback Singer (Male).

Another film that captivated audiences, ‘Sita Ramam’, also took home several awards. Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, it won Best Film (Critics). Dulquer Salmaan received the Best Actor (Critics) award and Mrunal Thakur was honoured with Best Actress in a Leading Role (Female) for her outstanding performance, marking her greatest Tollywood debut. The late lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry won ‘Best Lyrics’ for the song ‘Kaanunna Kalyanam’.

  • Best Playback Singer (Female): Chinmayi Sripada (Oh Prema – Sita Ramam)
  • Best Choreography: Prem Rakshith (Naatu Naatu – RRR)

B. Filmfare Awards South (Tamil):

‘Ponniyin Selvan Part 1’, directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam, dominated the Tamil category. The film won ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Music Album’ for AR Rahman, ‘Best Playback Singer (Female)’ for Antara Nandy and ‘Best Cinematography’ for Ravi Varman and KK Senthil for ‘RRR’.

Dhanush, stunned his fans by winning for the ninth time in ‘Best Actor (Critics)’ category for ‘Thiruchitrabalam’, sharing the award with R Madhavan (Rocket: The Nambi Effect). Kamal Haasan even at 69, won ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male)’ for ‘Vikram’, showcasing his never-ending aura. Sai Pallavi, continuing her mark also in Tamil, she was awarded for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ for her exceptional performance in ‘Gargi.’

C. Filmfare Awards South (Malayalam):

‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ was a major winner in the Malayalam category, securing awards for ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male)’ for Kunchacko Boban and ‘Best Director’ for Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval. Darshana Rajendran won ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role (Female)’ for ‘Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey.’

Veteran actress Revathi received the ‘Best Actress (Critics)’ award for ‘Bhoothakaalam’ and Alencier Ley Lopez won ‘Best Actor (Critics)’ for ‘Appan’.

D. Filmfare Awards South (Kannada):

‘Kantara’, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, transformed the Kannada film industry, winning six Filmfare Awards. These included ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male)’, ‘Best Actress (Critics)’ for Sapthami Gowda, ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male)’ for Achyuth Kumar, ‘Best Music Album’ for B Ajaneesh Loknath and ‘Best Playback Singer (Male)’ for Sai Vignesh for ‘Varaha Roopam’.
