The onscreen chemistry of Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan remains memorable even today. From Biwi No. 1 to Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, the duo shared a warm charm that audiences loved during the late 90s and early 2000s. Now, as the iconic song Chunnari Chunnari from Biwi No. 1 gets recreated in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, let us look back at the bond the two actors shared both on and off screen.
Sushmita Sen On Working With Salman Khan
In a throwback interview with Lehren during the promotions of Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge in 2002, Sushmita spoke openly about working with Salman and how their friendship became stronger over time.
She shared, “This is my second film with Salman Khan. In our first film, there were so many people involved that we didn’t really get the chance to know each other well. In this film, from the beginning to the end, we’ve been very comfortable working with one another.”
The actress explained that unlike Biwi No. 1, where there was a large ensemble cast, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge gave them more time together on set which helped them connect better as co-stars.
“That’s What Makes Him Salman Khan”
Talking about Salman’s personality, Sushmita spoke warmly about his nature and innocence, “Salman Khan is a man who is like a child and that’s what makes him Salman Khan,” she said while describing what makes the superstar so unique.
She further added, “And in this film he has utilized it very well, as there’s a very emotional side to the man in this film, and I personally think it’s one of his better performances.” Her words reflected the comfort and understanding they shared during filming, something that clearly translated onto the screen as well.
“Working With Salman & Dia Felt Like My Own People”
The 2002 film also starred Dia Mirza in a leading role. Speaking about her experience with both actors, Sushmita said the atmosphere on set always felt warm and personal like a “family”.
“Salman & Dia both felt so much like I was working with my own people,” she shared.
