Rs 400 Crore Lawsuit! Vashu Bhagnani Sues Makers Of Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

Just days before release, Varun Dhawan starrer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has landed in a major legal battle. From song rights dispute to a Rs 400 crore lawsuit, the controversy around the film is now grabbing attention online.

Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has landed in legal trouble just days before its release. Producer Vashu Bhagnani and his production house Puja Entertainment have filed a Rs 400 crore lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against Tips Industries, Ramesh Taurani, Kumar Taurani and filmmaker David Dhawan.

The case is related to the alleged unauthorised use of songs from the 1999 film Biwi No. 1, including the popular tracks Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai.

What Is The Dispute About?

According to the lawsuit, Puja Entertainment claims that the makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai did not have proper permission to use the songs and related visual material in the new film and its promotions.

Speaking to ANI, Advocate V K Dubey said, “We have filed a suit with a claim of Rs. 400 crores to the Tips Music Company. The legal battle has been increasing for many days and the rights of the musicians were not ready to be settled.”

He further explained that earlier agreements only covered audio rights and not visual rights. “In 2018, Tips had emailed us and asked for visual rights. Vashu Bhagnani had replied to them, but their conversation did not settle,” he added.

Release Could Be Affected

The production house has also requested the court to stop the release, streaming and promotion of the film until the matter is resolved. Along with this, they have demanded removal of the songs from the film and even asked for a title change since Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is linked to the original song Ishq Sona Hai.

Meanwhile, Tips Industries has denied the allegations and claimed they legally own the music rights.

Directed by David Dhawan, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur and is scheduled to release on June 5.
