“Kundli Dekh Kar Thodi Na Pyaar…”: Padmini Kapila Reacts To Her Affairs With Prakash Mehra, Navin Nischol

In the late 70s and 80s, Padmini Kapila won over audiences with her charm and youthful screen presence who appeared in films like Shaan, Woh Main Nahin, Dera Aashqan Da and Intezaar. But alongside her professional journey came with controversies and back then her personal life was often in the spotlight, particularly with rumours about her involvement with married men. Talking about the same in an exclusive interview with Lehren, Padmini opened up about these chapters, admitting some regrets but also reflecting on her decisions with honesty.

During the conversation, firstly she addressed speculation about actor Navin Nischol whose marriage troubles were once linked to her. While denying that she caused issues in his personal life, Padmini Kapila then reacted on her regret over falling in love with Prakash Mehra, where she shared her experiences of being in a relationship with the filmmaker, despite him being married at the time.

Looking back, the actress admitted that some choices were not right. Speaking about falling for the wrong person she said, “You don’t plan these things na, you’re going to have an affair or not going to have an affair, he is married or not married. What is his nature, kundli dekh kar thodi na pyaar karte, isn’t it?”

Padmini Kapila also recalled reading Prakash Mehra ’s statement in a throwback article that, “Wife is a wife and girlfriend is a girlfriend”. For her, that was the breaking point. “That’s when I left him, because I always dreamt of having a perfect family and kids,” she admitted.

Later in 1989, Padmini got married to a Singapore-based businessman, Jitendra Kumar Rishi. However, even this marriage ended years later due to irreconcilable differences. Despite everything, she now speaks about her life with acceptance, acknowledging mistakes but also embracing the lessons they taught her.
