‘I Made A Lot Of Wrong Choices’: Padmini Kapila Looks Back At Her Bollywood Struggles

Padmini Kapila, the veteran beauty who was once celebrated as the new glamorous girl of Bollywood, made her mark with roles in films like Intezaar (1973), Shaan (1980), Dera Aashqan Da (1979) and more. Despite starting the career in acting with great promise but her journey in the industry took a different turn. Today, as she lives a quiet life with her family that makes her happy but she somewhere regrets about the choices that she made in her profession.

Looking at the back, the 65-year-old actress admits that wrong decisions cost her big opportunities. She revealed how she turned down roles in films like Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Ek Baar Phir (1980) and more where she even declined a role as Amitabh Bachchan’s sister in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978) though later she signed a smaller role in Laawaris opposite Ranjeet as his girlfriend in which Amitabh addressed her as Bhabhi.

Recalling that moment, she shared, “The film had two roles, one for sister opposite Ranjeet and another as his girlfriend. Amitabh Bachchan told Ranjeet, ‘What if she rejects this sister’s role again?’ That’s why I was offered the girlfriend’s role, as I had already refused a similar role in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.”

Speaking about her choices, she admitted, “I regret it because you know…” and recalled how she also refused a cameo in Kabhi Kabhie which later went to Mumtaz’s niece. Reflecting further she confessed, “I said ‘so many people’ pata nahi I MADE A LOT OF WRONG CHOICES.” When asked why she made such decisions, Padmini Kapila responded with honesty saying “I don’t know, I think it was a blend of both” mix of misguidance and her own judgment.
