In the early 1990s, Bollywood fans couldn’t get enough of the onscreen magic of Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in films like Saajan (1991) and Khalnayak (1993). Their chemistry sparked endless speculations that the two stars were also rumoured to be close off-screen as well. While the relationship was never officially confirmed publicly nor denied, but it remained one of the most talked-about stories of that era. Now, a senior journalist has shed new light on the matter.
During an interview with Hindi Rush, veteran journalist Pooja Samant was asked whether Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt were really involved or not and later they separated – is it true? To which she recalled a well-known photographer once telling her that it was Madhuri’s father who played a major role in keeping her away from Sanjay.
According to the photographer, Madhuri’s father explained to her in Marathi, “Ha rasta tujha sati nahi (this path is not for you).” He advised her to distance herself saying that since Sanjay was caught in controversies, there was no certainty he could provide stability as a husband and family man. Believing it was the right decision, he guided his daughter away from the relationship.
Their rumoured relationship reportedly ended around 1993, when Sanjay was arrested. That incident is said to have marked a clear turning point.
Pooja further added how Madhuri’s family later took Madhuri to the United States, where she eventually married to Dr. Shriram Nene. The journalist further credited Madhuri’s parents for ensuring she had a stable and happy marriage.
While the whispers around their alleged romance never truly faded, this new insight points to the strong influence of family in shaping Madhuri’s life decisions.
