Priyanka Chopra, following her victory in the Miss India World pageant, was initially selected for the female lead role in Abbas–Mustan’s romantic thriller Humraaz (2002), which was intended to mark her film debut. Unfortunately, this opportunity did not materialize for several reasons. Subsequently, she made her official Bollywood film debut in 2003, portraying the second female lead alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in Anil Sharma’s The Hero: Love Story of a Spy.

Actress Priyanka Chopra underwent nasal surgery in the early 2000s to excise a polyp from her nasal cavity, which unfortunately led to complications. The unsuccessful procedure resulted in her dismissal from several film projects. However, director Anil Sharma stood by her during this challenging period, assisting her in overcoming her difficulties.

He not only retained her for the film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy but also persuaded producers Sunil Darshan and Subhash Ghai to cast her in Andaaz and Aitraaz. In a recent discussion with Vickey Lalwani, Anil Sharma emphasized that while he does not assert that he made her a star, he did provide her with support and encouragement to remain in Bollywood when she was contemplating leaving the industry to return to Bareilly.

“She is successful because she is very talented and when you are this good, God sometimes brings people in your life who give you a push. And I think I can be one of those people,” he added.

When inquired about his current relationship with Priyanka, Sharma responded, “She has maintained contact with me. If she spots me in a gathering of 100 individuals, she approaches me. We share a positive rapport. I also had a strong connection with her late father.”

Additionally, he elaborated on the absence of collaboration since their 2003 film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, stating, “Priyanka Chopra has risen to such prominence that any role would need to be fitting for her.”

The Hero: Love Story of a Spy served as Priyanka’s debut in Hindi cinema, featuring notable actors such as Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Kabir Bedi, Amrish Puri, Rajpal Yadav, Pradeep Rawat, Parvin Dabas, and Shahbaz Khan, among others.
