Vicky Kaushal’s Missed Opportunities: Films That Turned into Blockbusters

Vicky Kaushal has turned down several films that later became major hits. While he has no regrets about his choices, some of these movies went on to achieve significant success.

Vicky Kaushal has declined numerous films offers that subsequently became significant successes. Although he harbors no regrets regarding his decisions, several of these films achieved remarkable acclaim. Noteworthy instances include:

Stree (2018): Initially, Vicky Kaushal was offered the lead role in this horror-comedy but turned it down due to his obligations to Manmarziyaan. The part ultimately went to Rajkummar Rao, and the film emerged as a tremendous success, grossing over ₹180 crore at the box office. Its sequel, Stree 2, released in 2024, exceeded ₹800 crore in revenue, establishing itself as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.

83 (2021): Kaushal was said to have been offered the role of cricketer Mohinder Amarnath in this film depicting India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup triumph. He opted out of the supporting role, preferring to pursue lead roles instead. Saqib Saleem took the role, and the film proved to be a commercial hit.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012): Vicky Kaushal auditioned for the character of Zain Mirza, the best friend of Shah Rukh Khan’s character, in this romantic drama. However, the role was awarded to Sharib Hashmi. The film was a commercial success and represented Yash Chopra’s final directorial effort.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013): Kaushal’s first significant audition was for the part of Milkha Singh’s friend in this biographical sports drama. He admitted that his audition was “horrible,” and the role was eventually played by Farhan Akhtar. The film was a critical and commercial success.

Despite missing out on these opportunities, Vicky Kaushal has carved out a successful career in Bollywood with his performances in films like Masaan, Raazi, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Chhaava.
