Universal Pictures has announced plans to produce a biopic about pop superstar Britney Spears, with acclaimed director Jon M. Chu at the helm. This project aims to delve into the life and career of one of modern pop culture’s most iconic and controversial figures.
Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians, Wicked and In the Heights, is set to direct the film. La La Land, The Little Mermaid, and Lost Rivers producer, Marc Platt will produce the Spears’biopic.
Birtney Spears announced the film on her X-page where she wrote that she is working with Platt on a “secret project.”
The film is based on the Grammy Award-winning pop star’s bestselling 2023 memoir The Woman in Me. The book was published on 24th October last year and has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States. Britney Spears revealed many things in her memoir including her abortion while she dated singer Justin Timberlake. Her single debut in 1998, Baby One More Time, became a hit and went platinum fourteen times.
Spears, who has recently regained control over her personal and financial affairs, has been vocal about her life experiences and the impact of the conservatorship. The biopic is anticipated to offer a candid and comprehensive portrayal of these events, providing audiences with a deeper understanding of the pressures and hardships faced by the pop icon.
