The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were officially announced on July 18, honouring the best films certified in 2024 across Indian cinema. From Hindi to Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and several other regional industries, the awards celebrated outstanding storytelling, performances and technical excellence.
This year, Article 370 emerged as the biggest winner, taking home the Best Feature Film award along with two more honours. One of the proudest moments of the evening came when Malayalam legend Mammootty shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan. Even after more than 55 years in cinema, Mammootty continues to amaze the audience with his groundbreaking performance and receive recognition for his work, earning his fourth National Award for Bramayugam.
Tamil and Telugu cinema also enjoyed a successful outing, with films like Amaran, Kalki 2898 AD, Captain Miller, Committee Kurrollu, Maharaja, Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 and 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu winning across several categories.
