Nayanthara’s “Annapoorani” Controversy: FIR Registered Amid Ram Mandir Ceremony, Saying Film Hurts Hindu Sentiments

Ramesh Solanki registered a complaint against Nayanthara's "Annapoorani", saying its release was a deliberate move amidst Ram Mandir inauguration.

Currently, Ram Mandir’s inauguration is a big fuss in the country. And amidst this, the controversial content of the movie, “Annapoorani” has created a mess in the country. Ramesh Solanki from Hindu IT Cell has registered a complaint against the team of “Annapoorani” starring Nayanthara, saying the film has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindu people. And now the film has been removed from the international platform Netflix.

Annapoorani, directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, was released in theaters on December 1, 2023, and after a month, on December 29, this Tamil film was available on OTT. It’s the story of a girl from a Brahmin family who aspires to be a great chef, but her religious background becomes a huge obstacle in her path. Her friend Farhaan is a big support to her throughout her journey. But there are a few scenes which are sensitive enough to hurt the religious sentiment of a group, particularly Hindus.

Solanki elaborated on the allegations he had put on film. He said that the film promotes “Love Jihad”. Ram Mandir ceremony and the film’s release on OTT is not a coincidence, rather it is a deliberate move by the Netflix and Zee studios. There is a scene in the movie where the lead of the film, a Hindu girl, offers Namaz before making a Biryani. And her friend tells her story that even Lord Ram and Sita consumed meat during their Vanavass.

Ramesh Solanki posted on X about this. He made a request to register a complaint against Nilesh Krishnaa, Jai, Nayanthara, Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, Punit Goenka, Shariq Patel and Monika Shergil etc. He pointed out 3 things in the film:  A daughter of a Hindu Poojari, offers Namaz to cook Biryani, Love Jihad is promoted in this Film, Farhan (Actor) persuades the actress to eat meat saying that Bhagwan Shri Ram was also a meat eater. Etc.

Netflix didn’t reply to this immediately, but after the protest at the Mumbai office of company by the members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad made Netflix removed the movie from the platform.  This may create a peaceful situation before the ceremony.
