Bringing a bold concept and a fresh shift in the romantic drama genre, Anurag Kashyap surprised audiences with Dev.D back in 2009. When the filmmaker made the film, he wasn’t just trying to recreate a classic – he wanted to break it. As the Abhay Deol, Radhika Apte and Kalki Koechlin starrer gears up for a re-release on April 24 in select theatres, the director opened up about what inspired him to create this version.
Speaking to Times of India, Anurag Kashyap said, “When we made Dev.D, it came from a place of rebellion. I wanted to strip away the poetry and confront the contradictions, the very human mess beneath a protagonist (Devdas) who had long been romanticised.”
Unlike earlier any other versions, Dev.D bought up a flawed and uncomfortable hero. To which Kashyap highlighted, “This Dev isn’t a romantic hero. He’s entitled, impulsive, and often deeply unlikable. His self-destruction isn’t noble; it’s reckless and painfully real.”
Further he spoke abut how female characters were redefined. “Paro… has agency, desire, and anger; she chooses; she resists. And Chanda… isn’t defined by sacrifice but by survival and reinvention.” And this shift made the film stand out and helped it gain a cult following over the years, which has a different set of audience admiring Anurag’s filmmaking style.
For Kalki Keochlin, the film was a learning experience. Kashyap’s then wife, Kalki recalled how nervous she was about her Hindi and how she practiced everyday. At the same time, she said not knowing much about filmmaking helped her stay natural in front of the camera. Adding on, Abhay Deol also spoke about how people initially thought the idea was “too arty”. He remembered narrating it as a simple love story to Kashyap, who later got hooked on the concept.
Kashyap believes Dev.D is meant for the big screen and he said, “To see Dev.D return to the big screen feels special… I am curious to see how the new generation responds to it.”
With music by Amit Trivedi and strong visuals, the film still holds its space in modern cinema.
Dev.D was never just a remake, it was a rethink. As it returns to theatres, it brings back a story that challenged ideas and still feels relevant today.

The legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively has taken a major new turn. After nearly two years of back-and-forth, a recent court hearing has changed the It Ends With Us stars’ direction of the case.
A federal judge dismissed 10 out of the 13 claims which were filed by Blake Lively. These included serious allegations like sexual harassment, defamation and claims of a smear campaign. However the case isn’t over yet.
Following this decision, Justin Baldoni has released an official statement. As per the reports in People, the statement issued by his legal team read, “We’re very pleased the Court dismissed all sexual harassment claims and every claim brought against the individual defendants: Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath, Steve Sarowitz, Melissa Nathan, and Jennifer Abel.”
They further added, “These were very serious allegations, and we are grateful to the Court for its careful review of the facts, law and voluminous evidence that was provided.”
Calling it a “narrowed case,” the team further stated, “We look forward to presenting our defense to the remaining claims in court.”
While most claims have been dismissed, two key issues will still go to trial, and these include a breach of contract claim and a FEHA retaliation claim against Baldoni’s company.
And the actress’s legal team responded by saying the case will now focus on alleged retaliation and actions that affected her reputation. They also clarified that some claims were dropped because the court viewed her as an independent contractor, not an employee.
Meanwhile, the case is now set to move forward to trial on May 18 and the both sides are expected to present their arguments in court.
With most claims dismissed, the case has clearly shifted direction. Still, with key allegations remaining, the upcoming trial will be crucial in deciding how this legal battle unfolds.
Sometimes, one line is enough to shake the internet and the filmmaker Sanjay Gupta recent post on X (formerly Twitter) has left fans talking, he wrote, “KHODA PAHAAD… NIKLA CHUHA.” The phrase that loosely means a lot of effort leading to a disappointing result. He didn’t mention any film but his timing of the statement caught everyone’s attention.
This came just few minutes after when the teaser of Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram was unveiled. Naturally, people began connecting the dots, even though Gupta didn’t confirmed anything.
To be clear, Sanjay Gupta did not directly refer to Ramayana. Still, social media users were quick to speculate. Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial teaser which also gave glimpses of Yash as Ravana, has already created a lot of buzz online. Because of this, many assumed the post was aimed at the film. The discussion quickly picked up,and reactions started pouring in from all sides.
The internet had divided opinions. Some users felt the comment was unnecessary. One wrote, “not in good taste, must not be from industry person.” Another added, “strange to see a comment from a filmmaker who is judging a two-minute teaser in his mobile of a movie which has been filmed for IMAX.”
At the same time, a few users agreed with the sentiment. One commented, “Hard Agree. The teaser of Ramayana is so mid and Ranbir Kapoor as Rama is the biggest casting mistake.” Another said, “Exactly. Very underwhelming.”
This isn’t the first time Sanjay Gupta ’s post has been linked to Ramayana. Earlier when the film’s reported ₹4000 crore budget was discussed, he had written, “They let the work speak for itself.” Again, no names were mentioned but the timing led to speculation.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is a two-part project backed by Namit Malhotra. With a big cast and scale, the film is already one of the most talked-about releases of the year which is set for big festive release during Diwali 2026.
However, whether the film lives up to the expectations of fans or not, only time will tell.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is rewriting box office records and this time, it has done something never seen before. The Ranveer Singh starrer film has crossed the ₹1400 crore mark worldwide within just 12–13 days of its release which made it the first Bollywood film to achieve this milestone (excluding the China market).
Aditya Dhar’s directorial film released on March 19, 2026 which has seamlessly carried forward the momentum of its prequel but at a much bigger scale! Even in its second week, the film is holding steady. On Day 13, the movie earned around ₹27.75 crore taking its domestic net total close to ₹900 crore. The gross collection in India has already crossed ₹1000 crore.
While the most of the earnings are coming from the Hindi version, Telugu and Tamil markets have smaller contributions. And cities like Delhi NCR and Mumbai continue to show strong occupancy, proving that the film still has audience interest.
Talking about the overseas, the film is performing well. With nearly $38–40 million collected internationally – becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films in several markets and it has even broken long-standing records in North America, going past Baahubali 2’s numbers in the region.
Interestingly, the first part of Dhurandhar had collected around ₹437 crore net by Day 13. In comparison, the sequel has almost doubled that number in the same time frame.
However, it still trails slightly behind Pushpa 2’s early numbers keeping the competition alive.
While the second week saw a slight slowdown, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is still expected to continue its run. With strong word of mouth and steady occupancy, await to see that more records could be broken in the coming days.
Poonam Pandey is once again in the spotlight and in no time became talk of the internet, this time over a social media post that has left everyone confused. Just ahead of April Fool’s Day, the actress shared photos where she appears to be showing a baby bump and in the caption the post included only emojis of a pregnant woman, a baby bottle and a child – without any explanation. That silence is exactly what triggered the buzz.
As soon as the pictures went viral, reactions started pouring in. Some fans were quick to congratulate her, while others were clearly doubtful. Comments like “Really ?” and “What ????? Seriously ???” flooded the post. At the same time, many questioned its authenticity.
A few users simply wrote, “AI.” Another comment read, “Another fake stunt.”Reports suggest that the images may have been labelled as “made with AI,” which only added to the confusion. And since the timing aligns with April 1, many believe this could be a planned prank.
This isn’t the first time Poonam has shocked people online. In 2024, her team announced her death due to cervical cancer, only for her to later reveal it was a staged awareness campaign. The move faced heavy backlash, and that memory still affects how people view her posts today
Because of this, many users are now more cautious before believing what they see.
At the moment, there is no confirmation about the pregnancy. Whether this is real or just another unexpected move, only time will tell. Until then, the internet continues to guess.
In a heartfelt and emotional moment, Zayed Khan opened up about the criticism his family faced after performing his mother Zarine Khan’s last rites according to Hindu rituals. The actor addressed the trolling that followed and making it clear that the decision was based purely on her final wish, not on religious labels and how they believe in being united yet with different cultural followings.
Zarine Khan, who passed away on November 7 last year, lived a life that reflected unity beyond religion. Born into a Parsi family and married to a Muslim man she chose to live in her own way without strictly following one path. However, her final rites became a topic of debate online.
Zarine Khan was not just known as a former actress and interior designer but also as someone who valued family above everything. She believed in living a secular life where religion remained personal and never defined relationships.
Despite being from a Parsi background and married into a Muslim household, she did not convert and followed her own beliefs. This is why, when her last rites were performed as per Hindu traditions, it led to mixed reactions on social media.
But for the family, the intention was simple.. to honour her last wish.
Speaking in an interview with Zoom, Zayed shared how his family sees religion. He explained that for them, humanity comes first.
He said, “We as a family find religion to be something very personal to you, and how you want to approach it, and not something which is better and which is worse. These are not things that are good to say. We define ourselves by being a very secular family, and we don’t need to say why.”
He also spoke about how their household reflects this belief. From staff members belonging to different religions to supporting their families and education, the idea has always been to live with inclusivity.
During the conversation, Zayed recalled a quiet moment with his mother that stayed with him forever. Sitting by a calm river, she had shared something simple yet meaningful. He remembered, “The thought just passed her head, saying that ‘if I ever go, I want my ashes to flow in this river. I want to be free.’” That one moment became the guiding force behind their decision.
While the trolling hurt, Zayed chose to respond with calmness instead of anger. He made it clear that fulfilling a loved one’s last wish matters more than public opinion. He added, “Whatever your mother’s last wishes, it will be done. It doesn’t matter what other people say. It doesn’t matter how hateful they can be. I don’t blame them, halat aise hai (situation is such), unfortunately. Unn halaton ko badalne mein waqt lagega (It will take time to change those circumstances).” His words reflected both pain and understanding, showing that he chose empathy over reaction.
Zarine Khan is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan and their children- son Zayed and daughters Sussanne, Farah and Simone Arora. The couple had completed 59 years of marriage in April last year, marking a long and strong partnership.

There’s something interesting happening in the Telugu film industry right now and you can’t really ignore it. With projects like Ram Charan’s Peddi to Sharwanand’s Biker leading the conversation among others, Tollywood seems to be slowly stepping into the sports drama space in a big way! Known mostly for family entertainers and larger-than-life action films, the industry is now exploring a fresh storytelling zone.
Over the past year, a noticeable shift has taken place. Filmmakers are choosing sports as a strong backdrop to tell emotional and character-driven stories. From cricket and wrestling to motocross and shooting, the range itself shows how serious this change is becoming.
A New Direction For Telugu Cinema..
Tollywood has always been about scale and emotion, but sports dramas add a different kind of depth. They bring discipline, struggle and personal journeys into focus – as the industry has already delivered memorable films like Jersey, Sye, Thammudu, and Golconda High School. Now, the upcoming lineup suggests something bigger. It feels like the industry is consciously expanding its creative space. And for audiences, this could mean a refreshing mix of entertainment and realism.
Let’s take a closer look at some of these upcoming sports-based films.
Peddi – Cricket & Wrestling Come Together
One of the most talked-about projects right now is Ram Charan’s Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film blends cricket and kusthi (wrestling), set against in a rural backdrop. The recently released glimpse a glimpse of showcasing the actor in rugegd kusthi mode, shared on the actor’s birthday, has created strong buzz among fans. The visuals hint at a grounded story with emotional weight, rather than just spectacle.
Adding to the excitement is music by AR Rahman. The film is scheduled to release on April 30, 2026 and expectations are naturally high.
Sharwanand, mostly seen in a soft yet boy next door roles, is trying something completely different this time with Biker. Turning up the unstoppable mode with this film exploring motocross racing, a sport rarely shown in Indian cinema.
Directed by Abhilash Reddy Kankara and the film is expected to be India’s first motocross-based movie. Sharwanand has also undergone a major physical transformation, reportedly losing around 22 kilos to fit the role. The film is all set for release on April 3, 2026 and many are curious to see this new side of the actor.
Boxing has been explored before in films like Ghani and Liger, but neither created a lasting impact excluding Thammudu. Now, Tyson Naidu starring Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas is trying to revisit the sport. The story revolves around a police officer who is also passionate about boxing and hails legend Mike Tyson as his idol. Directed by Saagar K Chandra, the film carries a mix of action and personal struggle.
It will be interesting to see if this film manages to connect with audiences in a way earlier attempts couldn’t.
Suriya’s upcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual project Vishwanath And Sons brings a different kind of sports story. He plays a 40-year-old Olympic pistol shooting champion who is attempting a comeback. Directed by Venky Atluri, the film also includes a romantic angle with a noticeable age gap between the leads. Adding another emotional layer to the narrative with a fresh concept for Telugu film industry.
The film is expected to release in July 2026 and is already being discussed for its unique concept.
Volleyball was earlier explored much in Telugu cinema with Seetimaar (2021), but now adds another feather to its hat with tentatively titled film #PEP3, this project is backed by Niharika Konidela under Pink Elephant Pictures. While the lead actor hasn’t been officially confirmed, there are strong rumours about Varun Tej being part of the film. Directed by Vamsee, the project is still in early stages of casting with no release date announced yet.
A Horse Riding Film In The Works With Vijay Deverakonda?
There were earlier reports about Nithiin working on a horse riding-based film titled Swaari. However, recent rumours suggest that Vijay Deverakonda might take over the project. Though film has not moved forward yet, and there is no clarity on its schedule or release, still the concept adds to the growing list of sports-based storytelling in the industry.
Beyond Telugu: A Wider Trend?
Interestingly, this shift isn’t limited to Tollywood. Other industries have also experimented with sports stories recently, last year. With Tamil films like Bison, Phoenix and Runner, along with Malayalam films like Alappuzha Gymkhana, have explored similar theme Of sports drama. This shows a broader trend across Indian cinema where sports is becoming a strong narrative tool.
And Tollywood seems to be entering a phase where storytelling is expanding beyond its comfort zone. With films like Ram Charan’s Peddi, Sharwanand’s Bikerand others exploring different sports, the industry is clearly testing new ideas.
Whether all these films succeed or not, one thing is clear.. the intent to evolve is visible. And for audiences, that’s always a good sign.
