IPL 2020: Virat Kohli Gets Fined For Slow Over-Rate Against Punjab

The Thursday evening match between Bangalore and Punjab was all about KL Rahul’s fiery knock. The Punjab skipper proved to be a nightmare for the Bangalore bowlers. Bangalore suffered a massive 97-run defeat at the hands of Punjab. Apart from the loss, Bangalore had to face other trouble as well. Virat Kohli has been fined as his team maintained a slow over-rate during the game against Punjab.

Virat Kohli has been fined Rs 12 lakh relating to slow over-rate offenses. In a statement, IPL said, “Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain Virat Kohli has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 202o match against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai on 24 September 2020.”

The statement further reads, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

During the face-off between Punjab and Bangalore, KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 132 runs off just 69 balls. His brilliant knock helped Punjab to put up a target of 207 for Bangalore to chase.

For the unknown, with his fiery knock, KL Rahul also achieved the highest individual score by an Indian player in the IPL.

Under-19 India bowler Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin also grabbed 3 wickets each in the match as Punjab. Thus, Bangalore stumbled to 107 runs.

The 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is being hosted by the UAE. It is due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in India.

In the upcoming match, Bangalore will lock horns with Mumbai on September 28.

In their first outing against Hyderabad, the Bangalore-based franchise managed to win by 10 runs.
