Celine Song's 'Materialists' sparks strong reactions online. Fans praise the film's honest take on love while others feel mixed. Dive into the Twitter buzz!

Dakota Johnson is back yet again doing what she’s best known for. The actress shined in the recently released romance dramedy film Materialists, directed by Celine Song, alongside Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. Watching this love triangle, fans can’t help but be fully in awe of this amazing trio. Released on June 13, the film is set in New York and follows Lucy (played by Dakota), a matchmaker torn between her ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans) and a wealthy financier Harry (Pedro Pascal). The movie dives into modern love, ambition and complicated emotions.

Soon after its release, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. Many are praising the film for its honest and emotional storytelling. One fan wrote, “Materialists is a refreshingly honest look at modern day dating & the expectations that come with it. It’s funny in parts but also achingly poignant. Dakota Johnson & Pedro Pascal are electric but it’s Chris Evans who delivers career-best work. Bravo Celine Song.

Another user also shared affection for Chris’ performance, saying, “The more I think about it, the more I want Chris Evans to get his first Oscar nomination for #Materialists. What he does with the role, coupled with Celine Song’s writing, has really stuck with me. He’s seriously that good.

While many appreciated director and actors work, but not all viewers felt the same. A user commented, “Materialists wasn’t for me. Found the writing unbearably bad at times, repetitive monologues about how love can’t be reduced to numbers and checkboxes.

Another added, “In Materialists (2025), you have three well established actors not giving you anything past a surface-level performance, then randomly have Zoe Winters giving you her all.

While most fans are loving Materialists for its raw take on love and relationships, a few feel it didn’t fully click. Either way, the film has sparked quite the conversation.
