The controversy surrounding Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi’s recent comment on Prabhas’ portrayal in the film Kalki 2898 AD was “like a joker”, has ignited a huge backlash, not only on social media but across the nation. This remark has sparked outrage, particularly within the Telugu film community. MAA President Vishnu Manchu has now expressed his concern by writing a formal letter to the Cine & TV Artists Association (CINETAA) in Mumbai.
MAA President Vishnu Manchu has been actively working to bring about change in the film industry, especially in addressing derogatory comments made by content creators on social media. A month back, he has taken steps to remove trolling videos that target both common people and actors. In his latest effort, Vishnu Manchu wrote a letter to CINETAA President Poonam Dhillon, addressing the significant concern caused within the Telugu film fraternity by Arshad Warsi’s remarks about Prabhas’ character in Kalki 2898 AD.
In the letter, MAA President Vishnu Manchu emphasized the importance of respecting everyone’s views and opinions. However, he expressed his regret over the belittling comment made by Arshad Warsi about Prabhas, stating, “Mr. Warsi’s remark has hurt the sentiments of many in the Telugu film community and among fans.” He further highlighted the power of words, especially in today’s world of social media, where messages can spread like wildfire. “It is crucial that we, as public figures, exercise caution in our expressions. Words have power, and they can either build bridges or create rifts,” he added.
Vishnu Manchu also assured CINETAA of his confidence in their commitment to unity and respect within the film community. He requested that Arshad Warsi be advised to refrain from making such remarks about fellow actors in the future. “I am confident that CINETAA, which has always stood for unity and respect within the film community, shares our sentiment that such remarks should be avoided in the future,” he wrote.
Arshad Warsi’s comments have indeed sparked widespread controversy. Several Telugu actors, including Sharwanand, Sudheer Babu, Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Nani and producer Dil Raju, have come forward to support Prabhas. The situation escalated more when actor Nani, in defense of Prabhas, made a statement that led to further backlash. Nani commented, “The person you are talking about got more publicity from this incident than he has in his entire career.” This remark drew criticism from both North Indian and Telugu fans, who were concerned about the impact on Nani’s upcoming release Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, scheduled for release on August 29, 2024.
In response to the backlash, Nani took back his statement made on Arshad Warsi, acknowledging that he had chosen his words poorly. “We need to be extra careful with our words. In this case, both he and I are victims,” he explained. He further clarified, “When it’s about someone you love dearly, you naturally react and say, ‘Why give so much importance to an unimportant matter?’”
