Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, who is presently serving as a Member of Parliament for the BJP representing the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, acknowledged that she is not entirely enjoying her political career. She also disclosed that although she has consistently advocated for women’s rights and empowerment, her involvement in politics feels more akin to social service, a field from which she does not originate.
In her conversation on the Atman in Ravi (AIR) podcast, Kangana candidly admitted, “I’m getting a hang of it. I wouldn’t say that I am enjoying it (politics). It’s a very different kind of work, more like social service. This hasn’t been my background. I’ve never thought of serving people.”
She further elaborated, “I’ve fought for women’s rights, but that’s different… When someone’s drain is broken, I find myself thinking, ‘But I am an MP and these individuals are approaching me with panchayat-level issues. They are indifferent. When they see you, they present you with problems like damaged roads, and I inform them that this is a matter for the state government, to which they respond, ‘You have funds, why not use your own money?’
Clarifying her position, she stated, “Social work has never been part of my background. I have led a rather self-centered life. I aspire to own a large house, a luxurious car, and I desire diamonds. I want to present myself well. That is the lifestyle I have embraced.”
“I am uncertain about the purpose God has assigned to me, but I do not perceive my life as a significant sacrifice… I do not aspire to that kind of existence, nor do I wish it upon anyone… I lack the capacity for it,” she further remarked.
Recently, Kangana faced criticism for failing to visit her own constituency, Mandi, which suffered from a cloudburst and heavy rainfall.
