From Rising Star to Vanishing Act: The Decline of Abhishek Bachchan in Bollywood

Unravelling the Mystery: Why Abhishek Bachchan's Stardom Fizzled Out and What Lies Ahead

Abhishek Bachchan, without a doubt, is one of the most effortless actors in Bollywood. Acting comes easily to him as it does to Bachchan Senior. Honestly, I loved him in Refugee. But the performance was overshadowed by the launch of another superstar that year, Hrithik Roshan. Then he made some bad choices, like bad choices in Shararat, Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai. Om Jai Jagdish, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Na Kaho, and Jameen were better movies but were lost in the many movies released in those years.

There are several reasons why I think that he has the potential to do different kinds of roles as shown by films like Guru, Yuva, Bunty aur Babli, and Paa. However, I think that he doesn’t experiment enough, not only in the movies but also in his appearance. He has been maintaining the same look for over a decade now and it gets monotonous. It wouldn’t do him any good if he were to gain or lose weight. I believe that an actor is better if he can switch up his look with every role so that people start wondering what he looks like in real life.

He has also failed to hit it big in any genre. Though it is not a requirement to be good at acting, many actors have done so and made it big in their careers, including Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Salman Khan. Ignoring everything else, I think one of the biggest reasons (at least for me) why he has not been as successful as he could have been as an actor is that he doesn’t have the charisma or, as I like to call it, the X Factor. His father is a prime example of this. There is something in Amitabh Bachchan that makes you want to meet him and makes you fall in love with him. It is a mix of many things but in general, it’s a way of being which I believe is a gift from the gods. You either got it or you didn’t. Another actor who reminds me of this X Factor is Ajay Devgan. Abhishek Bachchan doesn’t seem to have any X factor at all (which also goes to show that you can’t be born with that kind of charisma).

On the other hand, I do not believe that Abhishek cannot be a good actor. But he will need to put in a lot of effort to hone his skills and become an actor that people like to watch. Nawazuddin Siddique is an example of someone who has achieved this, so there is no reason why someone like Abhishek will not be able to do the same. However, he will have to put in more effort to experiment with scripts/roles and look.

So, there’s never been a dull moment for him. He’s still a great actor and delivers on time. I just wish someone would cast him in another dreary/dark cop series. He’ll do great.
