Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan has taken Indian television by storm after breaking number of records in its re run on DD National, Star Plus too acquired the rights to telecast on their channel. To make such humongous tele serial it requires whole lot of research to get the right amount of content. Ramanand Sagar too did a lot of research before shooting Ramayan. Master filmmaker Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar in his book ‘An Epic Life: Ramanand Sagar: From Barsaat to Ramayan’ revealed an interesting story behind how his father took decision to bring Lord Ram on screen, he wrote, “Ramanand Sagar decided to make Ramayan while shooting for one of his films in Switzerland. He was sitting in one cafe and discussing various aspects then he decided to make the TV show. he said, ‘My life’s mission is to bring to mankind the virtuous story of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram.’ He started reading extensively for the show and read 14 versions of Ramayan before he zeroed in on Valmiki’s Ramcharitmanas” Isn’t that’s an interesting story, well we have to say that Ramanand Sagar’s extensive research paid as the show went on to become number one show in the world breaking the records of Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory.
