Zoe Kravitz Reveals Catwoman’s GENDER In The Batman

While Kravitz's character appears to have an emotional web with Batman, she may have had female lovers as well.

Zoë Kravitz appears to have confirmed long-standing rumors that her character Catwoman is bise*ual in her upcoming movie The Batman. The actress has recently admitted that she ‘interpreted’ the character as being part of the LGBTQ community in an interview with Australia’s Pedestrian.Tv.

While Kravitz’s character appears to have an emotional web with the eponymous Caped Crusader played by Robert Pattinson, she may have had female lovers as well. The Batman features an early scene with Zoë’s character Selina Kyle in which she returns to her apartment and calls out for her female friend Anika, calling her ‘baby’ in the process, suggesting they have a romantic relationship.

Although her possible romance with another woman is only hinted at, her attraction for Bruce Wayne aka Batman is explicit, as the two kiss later in the film. She also muddles her status by referring to Anika as a ‘friend’ while speaking with Pattinson’s character. Zoë admitted that she took the earlier scene to mean that Selina was bisexual, even if it wasn’t explicitly stated as such.

The Batman actress said, “That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship.” After the interviewer shared her excitement at seeing a bisexual Catwoman on screen, the Big Little Lies actress added, ‘I agree!’ But the film’s director, Matt Reeves, was more equivocal when it came to the question of Selina Kyle’s sexuality.

Matt Reeves went on to explain, “The film is very true to the character of Selina Kyle. She’s not yet Catwoman, but all the elements of how she’s going to become Catwoman are there.” “And in terms of her relationship with Anika, I spoke to Zoë very early on and one of the things she said which I loved was that, ‘She’s drawn to strays.’

He added, “she was a stray and so she really wants to care for these strays because she doesn’t want to be that way anymore and Anika is like a stray and she loves her. She actually represents this connection that she has to her mother who she lost, who was a stray anymore.”‘ The Cloverfield director clarified that the character wasn’t explicitly meant to be bi**xual, but he was open to that fan interpretation.
