Shubneet Singh aka Shubh is a 26-year-old Canada-based Punjabi singer who recently has been grabbing headlines and facing extreme backlash ahead of his concert in Mumbai, India, for allegedly supporting separatist Khalistan elements.
Shubh Shares Distorted Map Of India, Sparks Controversy
The controversy began after Shubh shared a distorted map of India on his Instagram stories omitting Kashmir, Punjab and northeastern states from the map. Sharing the omitted map on his Instagram Shubh wrote, “Pray For Punjab”. This sparked extreme outlash from the netizens and Indian citizens.
Following the same members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) tore down posters of the singer’s upcoming concert in India. The organization slammed and criticized the singer for sharing the distorted map of India on social media and accused him of supporting the Khalistan elements.
Virat Kohli Unfollows Shubh
Following the controversy, Indian cricketer, and former Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli unfollowed the singer from his social media handles. Following Virat Kohli, cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul also unfollowed Shubh from their social media handles.
Brand boAt Withdraws Sponsorship From Singer Shubh’s Tour
While that was not enough, now consumer-based electronics brand boAt has also decided to withdraw its sponsorship from the singer’s upcoming tour in India. On Tuesday, the brand announced on Twitter, that they are withdrawing their sponsorship from the singer’s upcoming tour for his remarks.
They tweeted, “At boAt, while our commitment to the incredible music community runs deep, we are first and foremost a true Indian brand. Therefore, when we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour”.
Shubh’s Concert In India
Shubneet Singh aka Shubh is a 26-year-old Canada-based Punjabi singer who is scheduled to perform at his concert in India which is supposed to be held from September 23 to 25 on Cordelia Cruises in Mumbai, with performances in cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
