The acclaimed Korean director Na’s first project since 2016’s hit film The Wailing marked Hoyeon’s first starring role in a Korean project since her screen debut in Squid Game. The film follows the residents of Hopo Port and something mysterious is happening on the outskirts of the remote port city. The residents soon find themselves in a desperate struggle for survival against something they’ve never encountered before. Hoyeon will play a cop.

‘Hope’ looks familiar to the filmmaker’s previous films, all of which were blockbusters. The 2016 thriller The Wailing was screened at Cannes before grossing $50 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $6 million.
