Robert Downey Jr choses to opt out of the Oscar race and calls MCU a multiheaded Hydra

After Robert Downey Jr's performance in Avengers: Endgame, fans were rooting for him to be nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars 2020. But in a recent interview he revealed that he has chosen to opt out of the race and also explained why!

After Avengers: Endgame released, Robert Downey Jr‘s fans are convinced that the actor deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance as Tony Stark aka Iron Man after he delivered a moving performance in the Russo Brothers directorial. Not only that but even the directors Joe and Anthony Russo were seen rooting for an Academy Award nomination for the actor. But seems like that is not going to happen anytime soon Disney chose not to nominate Downey for Oscars 2020.

Robert who made an appearance on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM, the host revealed that he was unhappy with the Oscar voters as they didn’t take a superhero movie role like Downey Jr.’s seriously. Howard said, “Because it’s a superhero movie they turn [up] their nose at it. The performance is excellent. It’s a totally believable character.”

To which Robert replied, “I’m so glad you brought this up because there was some talk about [an Oscar campaign] and I said, ‘Let’s not and because I’m much more like you than you might really want to believe. I listen to the show and I agree with most all of your opinions, varied though they may be. Occasionally, you’ll go on some tributary trail of thought [and] I’ll go like, ‘Oh that’s not how I see it, but I love that you see it that way,'” Robert also exclaimed that he never imagined the MCU would expand the way it is now. He said, “I’ll tell you the truth. I didn’t expect [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] to become what it became, and it is this very large, multiheaded Hydra at this point.”

Earlier this year we saw a breakthrough in a big way at the Oscars after Black Panther won, but they still seem to struggle nominations when it comes to acting. Michael B. Jordan’s performance in “Black Panther” made quite the buzz but it never resulted in an Oscar nomination. But now with Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” performance battling it out for a Best Actor nomination, would voters chose Downey Jr.?
