Rihanna Responds To Her First-Ever Golden Globe Nomination

Rihanna's Black Panther contribution marks the first piece of music the singer has dropped in six years.

Rihanna is now officially a Golden Globe nominee! The Hollywood Foreign Press Association unveiled the nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes. And Rihanna got a nomination for Best Original Song (Motion Picture) for “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Other nominees in the category include, “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, “Ciao Papa” from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun Maverick and “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian film RRR.

Showing excitement, the singer reacted to the nomination. Rihanna took to Twitter and wrote, “God be showing out!  @goldenglobes.” For the unversed, “Lift Me Up” plays during the end credits of the Black Panther sequel, and was created as a tribute to Chadwick Bosman who played King T’Challa, aka Black Panther, and died at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

Meanwhile, Rihanna’s Black Panther contribution marks the first piece of music the singer has dropped in six years. “Lift Me Up” was also written by Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson and the film’s director, Ryan Coogler. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hit theatres on November 11 and received worldwide praise. The Black Panther sequel has grossed over $769 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2022.

While the Umbrella hitmaker celebrated her remarkable Golden Globes nomination, fellow pop superstars Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga have had plenty of experience at the glitzy awards ceremony. This is Taylor’s fourth nomination at the Golden Globes, which honours the best in film and American television each year.

Taylor was nominated for 2011’s Safe & Sound from The Hunger Games, Sweeter than Fiction from One Chance in 2013 and most recently in 2019 for Beautiful Ghosts from the film Cats. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has already won the best original song gong in Shallow from the remake of A Star Is Born co-starring her and Bradley Cooper in 2018.

The singer-turned-Hollywood actress, 36, also won the best actress Golden Globe in 2016 for her role in the TV series American Horror Story: Hotel and has since starred in the critically-acclaimed 2021 film House of Gucci alongside Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto.
